BACKGROUND
ALTV are a media company that work with people predominately in Arabic speaking countries. They work with local creatives to produce regional video content that's topical and relevant to their peers.

BUSINESS GOALS
- Increase user participation across Arabic countries
- Gain a better understanding of how creators interact with the site

CHALLENGES
UX iterations had to work for the Arabic market as well as left-to-right scripted countries

DISCOVERY

STAKEHOLDER MEETINGS
To understand the product better, several stakeholder meetings took place to gain an understanding of the business objectives, we looked at what the 'perfect' creator user journey would be. An ideal future V1.5 roadmap was discussed as an insight to the company's aspirations.
UNDERSTANDING ARABIC USER NEEDS
A lot of research went into the needs of right-to-left script users and how they differ from left-to-right in terms of interactions. Some interesting takeaways;
- Digits are written from left to right although copy is not
- Not all icons need mirroring
- RTL search results copy length maybe longer than LTR

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS
I looked at various content driven video platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo to understand why users uploaded content and how the sites helped them on this journey. This was very useful to see how such platforms engage with their creators and what tools / rewards they supply.

PERSONAS
After looking at current creator user data in detail, it was noticeable there were different levels of creator participation, these were categorised into personas;
Aspiring creator (looking to create content, wants to take part in workshops)
Moderate creator (creates content from time to time)
Expert creator (creates content regularly with a successful channel)

Experience maps were created for each persona, these helped to understand the needs of the new user types so that the experience would be personalised for each level.

OUTPUT

OBSERVATIONS DOCUMENT
Insights were passed to the client based on the defined personas these included; user flows, ideal customer journey process, analytical patterns and possible features that could enhance their experience.
UX REPORT & HIGH-FI SCREENS
A detailed report was complied with suggestions for best practice and changes across the platform for the in-house team to implement.

To show the team how to apply the new styling across the product, a selection of screens were worked up to high-fidelity level.
